Other than the Turkish electorate, no one can dare to suggest the
removal of Turkey's democratically elected Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdogan and its government.

http://online.wsj.com/page/letters.html?mod=topnav_2_0133LETTERS: Turkey Is No Russia, Recep Erdogan Is No Putin
Regarding the op-ed by Michael Rubin, "Turkey's Putin Deserves to Go"(June 6): Other than the Turkish electorate, no one can dare to suggest the removal of Turkey's democratically elected Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and its government.
This article is full of baseless political allegations and half-truths. It is very easy to distinguish who stands where in Turkey. Our government stands for democracy, law, human rights, free markets and the European Union's political/economic standards. The other side cannot stand any of these, let alone a democratically- elected government, so they promote lies.
For the last six years the Justice and Development (AK) Party government has been accountable to the electorate, to the nation, to
the constitution and -- within the membership process -- accountable to the EU. Turkey, as described in this article, does not exist. If our
words are not enough, the EU statements made since mid-March are the best confirmation that the AK party government has been, is, and will be Turkey's and Eurasia's best hope.
So Turkey's government is being deceptive, the Turkish electorate is misled, the whole set of EU government leaders, EU parliamentarians and EU high officials are being fooled and the whole world has been blinded. Instead, you have one single talent who exclusively preaches the "truth." What he does is to shamelessly throw mud around, wrapped in the Journal.

As the highest-ranking bureaucrat who oversees and coordinates the governmental process, including appointments at the Prime Ministry, I feel the need to explain certain points, because of the courtesy we feel to The Wall Street Journal's readers' right to get the correct information.
Starting in 2002, when the current government first came into power, it has taken effective steps in Turkey regarding fundamental rights and freedoms and the institutionalizatio n of democracy. In this context, itinitiated the EU accession process by fulfilling the Copenhagen political criteria and implemented some amendments about election of the president by the Turkish public, and lowered the parliamentary terms from five years to four years. It is disrespectful to accuse the chairman of the political party who has implemented those reforms of "impatience with the rule of law and his dictatorial tendencies."
The government has not passed any amendment about the engagement of the civil servants and the retirement of judges. Allegations on those issues are totally incorrect. The retirement age for judges is governed by the constitution.
References implying that Prime Minister Erdogan fails to comply with the court's decisions happened long before the current government came into power. If the prime minister is seeking remedy in court against the publications, it shows his respect for democracy and the rule of law.
The assertion that the prime minister stepped into the sale of a media group before the bidding process of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) and forced the withdrawal of all competing bidders is untrue. The bidding was conducted in the most open way and was broadcast on live television.
Accusing the prime minister of offending civil rights is ridiculous. A law which guarantees personal rights and freedoms against bugging and illegal police surveillance was enacted by the AK party government in 2005.
